In 2025, Anna Calvi came to Amsterdam for a special collaborative project with the Metropole Orkest at the Holland Festival. Renowned for her operatic vocals, virtuosic guitar playing, and theatrical stage presence, she counts Brian Eno, Nick Cave, and David Byrne among her admirers. Calvi herself draws inspiration from figures such as Captain Beefheart, Maria Callas, and composer Olivier Messiaen. Her distinctive songs will take on a new dimension during this concert, featuring orchestral arrangements of tracks from her two Mercury Prize-nominated albums, Anna Calvi (2011) and One Breath (2013), as well as her recent EP Strange Weather. I wrote some “indie-noir” arrangements where Calvi’s vocals were complemented by the Metropole Orkest and choir.
