In 2017 I wrote the score for the documentary film WAD, by Ruben Smit.
The Wadden Sea Region as you’ve never seen it before. All the animals, nature, weather conditions, and seasons captured in one breathtaking film.
I have a passion for exploring boundaries and uniting soundscapes. I also explore these boundaries for Wad. The variety of imagery is magnificent, and creating music for it is a fantastic challenge. As musicians, we were involved at an early stage, even before the film was completed. We inspired each other—editors and musicians alike. This collaboration makes the combination of visuals and sound even stronger, resulting in an atmosphere that seamlessly aligns with the storyline.
WAD, Surviving on the Border of Water and Land, is the first Dutch nature film about the Wadden Sea region.
Director, ecologist, and nature filmmaker Ruben Smit and his crew present a remarkable portrayal of this unique Dutch natural area, showcasing its extraordinary natural phenomena both above and below the water, across all seasons. From the creator of De Nieuwe Wildernis.
